How do I split YouTube revenue?

Last Updated:

January 18, 2022

YouTube pays creators on the 21st of every month for the previous month's Adsense earnings. For instance, a creator gets paid their July Adsense earnings on August 21. As soon as YouTube pays a creator and the money lands in their bank account (on the 21st of every month), Stir splits it.

For example, Sara creates a YouTube Split with Julia on August 8. YouTube will pay Sara on August 21 for her July's Adsense earnings. As soon as that happens, Stir will automatically withdraw Julia's percentage of the total Adsense revenue from Sara's bank account and deposit it into Julia's bank account the same day (August 21).

How to create a YouTube Split

To create a Split, navigate to the 'Splits' tab and click 'Create Split' in the upper-right corner. The owner of the YouTube channel must be the person to create this Split. For example, if Sara and Julia want to split revenue from Sara's YouTube channel, Sara must create the Split — not Julia.

Select YouTube as your platform

From the platforms displayed, select YouTube.

Select your revenue source

A Stir Split can split revenue from an overall channel, a playlist of videos, or an individual video. If you have not already connected a YouTube channel, you must do so in order to see your channel, playlist, and videos appear here. To connect a YouTube channel, click 'Add a channel.'

Select your Split collaborators

Once you select your revenue source, a pop-up will ask you to add your collaborators. These collaborators are your Split participants, or the people with whom you will split your YouTube revenue.

If you have created a Split with them before, their emails will be displayed under 'Recent recipients.' If you've never shared a Split with them, add them by entering their email.

Adjust your Split collaborators' earnings

Use the sliding scale to adjust the percentage of earnings that each Split participant will receive. Click the 'Make even' button beneath the sliding scale to split the money evenly.

Enter the details in the Split summary

Split Name: name your Split anything that helps you remember what it is!

Message: add a message that your Split members will receive in an email asking them to accept your invitation to the Split.

Pay Out To: click 'Select bank source' and select the bank account that your YouTube account pays out to. You can either select from a list of previously connected bank accounts, or add a new bank account to Stir. To add a new bank account to Stir, Click 'Add Bank Account' and 'Get Started.' Then select your bank, add your credentials, and click 'Submit.'

Confirm your details

Double-check your information and click 'Create Split' to complete the process.

Review your Split summary

The Split summary will provide the following receipt of your Split.

What's next?

Now that you've created your Split, Stir will automatically invite all Split participants to the Split. The Split will become active once all members have onboarded to Stir.
